The ASSP Tarheel Chapter is seeking members and partner organizations interested in offering internship opportunities for students enrolled in the UNC Charlotte Occupational Safety programs.
These internships provide valuable real-world experience for future safety professionals while helping organizations develop strong entry-level talent in occupational safety and health.
Internship Structure
Internships may be arranged for a single academic term or run across multiple semesters. To align with UNC Charlotte’s academic schedule, we encourage start and end dates that follow these general timeframes:
- Spring Term: Early to mid-January through early May
- Summer Term: Early to mid-May through mid-August
- Fall Term: Early to mid-August through mid-December
Compensation
A minimum rate of $15 per hour is required; however, a higher rate is strongly recommended to remain competitive in today’s market.
- For reference, retail positions such as Target currently pay around $18/hr.
- During recent summer internships that included industrial hygiene work, competitive rates ranged from $28–$30/hr.
Scheduling Considerations
During the academic year, students typically have limited availability around class schedules. Employers are encouraged to consider 4–6 hour blocks of time rather than full-day schedules.
- Fall & Spring: Partial-day schedules work best
- Summer: Full-day availability is more realistic
